The Fearrington Farmers’ Market began in 1991 when a group of Fearrington Village residents together with Jenny and R B. Fitch contacted local farmers through the Seeds of Hope Project. The Fitch family envisioned the Fearrington Village Center as a place for farmers and consumers to meet — offering an attractive outlet for farmers and a source for fresh, high-quality, locally-grown produce, plants, meats, baked goods, and home-canned goods for consumers.
As a “producer-only” market (meaning that the products are grown, baked, tended, or preserved by the farms that bring them to market), the Fearrington Farmers’ Market benefits everyone involved. It supports small local growers, ranchers, and bakers by providing a direct outlet for their products. It encourages sustainable farming practices that preserve and enhance the quality of the soil. It helps the local economy. And it brings high-quality products to consumers at a reasonable price.
Along with that is the fun of “going to market.” Every Tuesday, from 4 pm to 6 pm during Daylight Saving Time, and 3 pm to 5 pm otherwise, the market is open to the public (people who live in Fearrington Village and anyone in the surrounding towns). Not all vendors are there every week, but some vendors are there every week, year-round. So, rain or shine, you’ll find a variety of produce and products that will make your trip worthwhile. You also might chat with the farmers see old friends or meet new ones! It’s a welcoming, inclusive, friendly atmosphere that encourages healthy, happy lifestyles and living.
Come early if you’d like to look over what is being offered; sales begin at the scheduled time with the ring of the bell. Bring along small bills ($20 or lower) to pay for your purchase. Some vendors accept credit and debit cards, and most will accept checks. While you’re there, take some time to chat with the farmers, ranchers, and bakers. Nothing could be fresher or more delicious than products from your local farmers’ market!
And finally, if you’d like to know which vendors are expected to be at the market each week, and what they’ll be offering, SUBSCRIBE to our weekly newsletter! You will receive a delightful and informative email each Monday about the market that Tuesday.
We’d love to see you. Bring your friends (fluffy friends are welcome too)! Remember, we’re here rain or shine! We look forward to seeing you!
